Special Projects

We have launched a number of projects with the aim of further developing the local sector. A few of these projects are highlighted below:

• Coir based value added products manufacturing project is launched with the aim of transferring technology for rural areas in association with private sector entrepreneurials / enterprises
  • Existing Project: Dalikanuanga Brush Manufacturing Project
• Facilitating and promotion of coconut shell collection program in order to promote activated carbon industry in association with able private sector supported by an effective customer awareness program.
• Wastage minimisation in domestic coconut consumption, by introducing housewives-friendly pulp making equipment.
• As a measure to revive the coconut oil industry, a comprehensive testing programme has been inaugurated with a view to eradicate adulteration and to sustain the industry. This is being conducted with the assistance of the following:
  • Ministry of Coconut Development
  • Consumer Affairs Authority
  • Ministry of Health
  • Coconut Research Institute
  • ITI - Industrial Technology Institute
  • SLSI - Sri Lanka Standards Institute
  • Colombo Municipal Council
• Financial assistance of Rs. 70 million has been arranged for the year 2006, for the benefit of the DC, Copra, Coconut Oil, Coconut Milk, Coconut Water, and Coir Industries.
