There are very thin rubberized coir sheets layer around trees or big plants. As it contains coir fibre on a high proportion it absorb water and retains moisture. Therefore, moisture around the tree conserved and made available for the plant growth. In addition this layer prevents growth of weeds and after few months decompose and mixed with the soil.
